A Day in the life of an Oxford University degree day at the Sheldonian Theatre

On Saturday the 7 May, hopefully in bright sunshine, the Sheldonian will play host to two degree ceremonies. The Theatre holds around 30 ceremonies a year with approximately 7000 students graduating.

Before 1669, the University Graduations were conducted at St Mary the Virgin Church on the High Street but became too rowdy for such a venue. Gilbert Sheldon commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to design a purpose built graduation venue and graduations have been held here ever since.

Situated in Headington, Oxford, Osler House is a fine art deco building which is the club house for medical students at Oxford University. It offers four meeting rooms and an outside patio area and gardens.

Oxford Literary Festival returns to the Sheldonian Theatre

This year’s FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival (OLF) ran from 2 -10 April and once again the Sheldonian Theatre was the venue for many talks.

Over seven days we welcomed more than 6000 people to 17 events which included a Jazz and blues concert as well as six talks aimed at younger book lovers.

On the Wednesday 5 March, four Storm Troopers stood outside the Examination Schools. Joined later by Chewbacca, they ushered in over 2000 people to Oxford’s very first Comic Con, Ox Con, hosted at the Examination Schools.
