Dining at OUEV venues

Case studies

Here at OUEV, we adapt our distinct and varied venues for many different types of events, maximising their tremendous versatility. One of the most rewarding ways we do this is by transforming our venues into visually stunning dining spaces.

The largest space in our portfolio is the Examination Schools. Home to exams and teaching since it was purpose built in 1882, when the evening comes our hard-working facilities team remove the examination tables, allowing our guests to enjoy exclusive use of the vast writing schools. Seating up to 580 dinner guests, this is one of the largest dinner venues in Oxford and the ornate backdrop provides an instant conversation starter.

Another dinner venue with the undeniable ‘Oxford factor,’ the Sheldonian Theatre gives your dinner guests a centre-stage view of Christopher Wren’s architecture and Robert Streater’s famous ceiling painting. Hosting the University’s graduation ceremonies by day, this elegant and distinguished architectural jewel provides dining for up to 80 guests. By further elevating your event to include a visit to the Sheldonian cupola, you can raise a toast to your friends or colleagues with a second-to-none view: a 360° landscape of Oxford.

The striking and unusual Osler House is a fabulous example of art deco architecture. This modern, light-filled building has curved glass walls of windows, clean lines and a lovely garden to spill out into. Without the formality of more traditional Oxford venues, Osler House is a popular choice for private dinners and can seat up to 80 with a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.

For smaller dinners of up to 40, the more intimate St. Luke’s Chapel charms visitors with its striking pre-Raphaelite stained-glass window décor and high-rising ceiling. Originally built as a religious space and now repurposed for University teaching and meetings, dinners in this venue perfectly encapsulate the OUEV blend of traditional style with modern innovation.

While maintaining the architectural and historic integrity of these venues is a priority, our approach to events is thoroughly modern. We work closely and creatively with specialists to tailor the spaces, reflecting your up-to-date event decor ideas. Whether you are looking for a traditional or modern feel, formal or relaxed, festive or themed, our wonderful events team will help you select the perfect venue, and our suppliers will have the lighting, decorations and flexible furniture required to meet your needs.  Our catering partners have varied and sophisticated menu choices, with options for all levels of formality, from casual buffets to fine dining. The choice is yours, and we are happy to help!
