How did you get into the events industry?

Last year I applied for an apprenticeship in the Facilities and Events team. I already had an interest in the events industry and wanted to deepen my knowledge and do something that would challenge me. I never thought I would be in the position I am in now! I’ve been working at the University for almost a year and have gone from having very limited knowledge to being a key team member that people rely on. I work alongside the most amazing team who have supported and helped me through my journey and I am looking forward to learning more!

What do you like most about your job?

I like interacting with people from different walks of life. One of the best parts of my job is seeing guests enjoy themselves, there is always such a warm and exciting atmosphere. I enjoy getting good customer feedback as it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
There’s a lot of variety and opportunity and there is always something new and different to do. I get a lot of support from my colleagues which is motivating and I like helping them to ensure their event runs smoothly. It’s a fast paced environment and everyone needs to be on their toes. We all put a lot of time and effort into ensuring events go well and work together to continuously improve our standards.

What you do on a daily basis?

I have set tasks but there’s always new things to do each day. Set tasks include managing events via our room booking system, processing bookings, answering customer enquiries via phone and email, keeping our customer database up to date, producing reports, raising invoices, purchase orders and ensuring everyone gets their post!

What is the best event you have helped support to date?

Recently we had Fresher’s Fair which welcomes new students to the University. I really enjoyed seeing the different stalls and new students arrive, the atmosphere was very energetic. We worked with the Event Manager from the fair to ensure the two day event run smoothly.

What you are looking forward to?

At the moment I see a certain part of the events process but I am looking forward to learning more about the bigger picture. I’m looking forward to putting my training into action and being involved with a wider variety of events across all our venues. I have learnt so much but I’m excited to see what the future holds and how far I can progress!.
