Endeavour comes to the Sheldonian Theatre

posted on Friday 24 June

Filming for series four of Endeavour was well under way when the cast and crew arrived at the Sheldonian Theatre to film an opening scene in the main hall.

There were various challenges involved in turning the Grade I* listed venue into a 1960’s concert hall as we needed to ensure that the fabric of the building was protected. Working with the Location Manager we were able to arrange for mats to protect the floor and scaffolding to protect the steps; modern day safety features had to be temporarily removed or covered over and staircases moved safely out of shot before the set was dressed to reflect the period.

The Theatre is no stranger to filming. It has been used as a location for films such as Remains of the Day and X Men and provided a backdrop for many other films and TV dramas. It has also been transformed into a studio setting for BBC’s Question Time.
If you are interested in filming at any of our venues then get in touch and we can arrange a site visit.
